-Largely undistinguished until his 1920 election
-Called "A good second-rater"
- He had a weakness for alcohol and gambling
-Appoints mainly friends, such as Harry Daugherty and Albert Fall, to important cabinet positions
-Most of his appointees were corrupt, and this led to the prominent Teapot Dome scandal
-Dies from two consecutive heart attacks in 1923, after embarking upon a western speaking tour
-Coolidge, his vice-president, is then placed in the presidency
