John Tyler - 1841-1845
-Tyler becomes president due to the death of William Henry Harrison
-He frustrates the Whigs until the party finally votes him out, at which point he joins the Democrats
-The Canadian rebellion sparks the Caroline Affair, in which a British ship destroyed an American steamboat carrying Canadian troops.
-A New York jury later acquits the British officer responsible, Alexander McLeod
-The Aroostook war between Canada and the United States, as well as the asylum granted by Britain to the Creole, are resolved by the Webster-Ashburton Treaty of 1842
-Tyler secures trading privileges in China via the treaty of Wang Hya in 1844
