-First Democrat to be elected following the Civil War
-Only president to serve nonconsecutive terms, known as a fighter of corruption
-Continues Chester Arthur's opposition to tariff legislation
-Discourages federal aid to any one group, believing it to weaken the character of said group
-Cleveland stands up to the railroad companies when he orders an investigation of western holdings, forcing the companies to return 81 million acres of land
-Signs the Interstate Commerce Act into law
-One of only a few candidates to lose an election but with the popular vote; Benjamin Harrison receives more electoral votes.
