Presidential Term Limits
The twenty-second amendment provides the stipulation that a president can only serve two four-year terms, for a ten-year maximum if this president also served an incomplete term of two years or fewer in the past. This was ratified in 1951, after Franklin Roosevelt was elected for four terms, from 1933 to 1945. Wary of a president accumulating too much power, the legislature drafted and proposed this amendment.
