Andrew Johnson - 1865-1869
-Takes over the presidential reconstruction efforts begun by Lincoln, such as readmission only after ratification of the 13th and 14th amendments.
-He himself believes that the south should belong to whites alone
-Opposes the efforts of congress to do similar tasks in 1867 but his veto on each of the reconstruction bills is overruled.
-The house attempts to impeach Johnson in 1867 for his violation of the Tenure of Office Act, but falls one vote short.
-Johnson is an outlier by the end of his first term because he is not nominated by his party for a second term. He is, however, elected back to the senate by Tennessee in 1875. He dies soon afterward.
